Champagne Marc Chauvet
Based in the tiny village of Rilly-la-Montagne (about 15 minutes south of Reims), the Chauvet family have been making Champagne here since 1529. Winemaker Clotilde Chauvet and her viticulturist brother Nicolas are putting the family’s centuries of experience into every bottle produced from their 32-acre estate on the Montagne de Reims.
Descending into the cellar with Clo Chauvet is done via a spiral staircase, but only for the first level, where the non-vintage wines are stored. From there is a second staircase, quite steep, and where it is not possible to see the last step while taking the first.
There is Champagne magic happening on each level, up and down every step and around each hidden corner, in one of the nicest cellars in all of Champagne--smack dab in the middle of Rilly-la-Montagne.
Clo and Nico have been working side-by-side for two decades now, and it's been awesome to see how close they are and the way they work in tandem, complementing each other, with the end product being these beautiful wines in your glass. Clo has said that they weren't particularly close growing up, but it's the work - his in the vines and hers in the cellar - that has really brought them together.
They have very different personalities, very different talents, but one common goal - excellence and quality above all.
A recent tasting of all of the new releases revealed a lineup of amazing consistency and rock-solid quality - just like we've come to expect from Chauvet over these many years. Here then are four brand new releases to add to your spring/summer collection!
We've worked with "Clo" and Nico Chauvet since Caveau's beginning, nearly 15 years now. These wines never, ever disappoint.
